Karimganj District of
Assam covers an area of 1,839 sq km and supports a population of one million. It shares 92 km of international border with the neighbouring country of Bangladesh and is bounded on the other sides by the states of
Tripura and
Mizoram. The town of
Karimganj is the district headquarters.
The Kushiara, Longai, Singla, and Barak are the major rivers that flow through Karimganj. Bengali is the predominant language.
Hindi,
Manipuri,
Assamese, Dimasa, and
Khasi are also spoken. The major agricultural products are sugarcane, arecanut, vegetables, tea, and rubber.
