Barpeta District




Barpeta District of Assam has been carved out of Kamrup District. It takes its name from the headquarters town of Barpeta. With a population of over 1.6 million, it has an area of 3,245 sq km. The climate is sub-tropical with two monsoon seasons.

The main tourist attractions are Barpeta Satra, Chinpara Vithi, Sundaridiya Satra, Patbaushi Satra, Pari Hareswar Devalaya, Dargah of Syed Shahnur Dewan, Manas National Park and the brass-metal industry of Sarthebari.
