Khammam, the headquarters of
Khammam District, is 257 km east of
Hyderabad. The 13th century town got its name from the vertical rock ‘Kamba’ on the Stambhadri hills. It was one of the major administrative blocks during the reign of
Kakatiyas of Warangal.
Khammam Fort, an ideal cultural masterpiece of this period, is one of the prime features of the city.
The ancient Narasimha Swamy Temple is a major shrine at Khammam. Thousands of devotees visit the Sree Seetharama Chandra Swamy Temple (devoted to Lord Ram) located here. A prime attraction nearby is the Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary.
Khammam Railway Station is on the
Vijayawada-Warangal line and is connected to Warangal, Bhadrachalam, Guntur and Vijayawada.
