Kolleru Lake, the largest natural freshwater lake in India, is located between the Krishna and Godavari deltas in
Krishna District of
Andhra Pradesh.
It serves as a natural flood-balancing reservoir for the two rivers and drains a catchments of about 2,000 sq km. The lake is fed by Budameru and Tammileru rivers. A virtual paradise for nature lovers, the lake serves as a sanctuary and attracts a variety of migratory birds.
Eluru, a place of historical importance, is situated on the border of the lake. It is 15 km from Eluru and 60 km from Vijayawada.
