Kolleru Bird Sanctuary is located in
West Godavari District of
Andhra Pradesh. It is 15 km from
Eluru and 60 km from
Vijayawada.
Kolleru Bird Sanctuary covers about 673 sq km of wetland and marshes surrounding the
Kolleru Lake, which is one of the largest fresh water lakes in the country. The sanctuary is home to painted storks, open bill storks, gray herons, cormorants, white ibises, glossy ibises, egrets, reef herons, ducks, coots, shovelers, terns, jacanas and common moorhen.
The best time to visit is October to May.
Eluru Railway Station and Vijayawada Junction Railway Station are the nearest railheads.
