Zunheboto District is situated in the heart of
Nagaland and is bounded by
Mokokchung District in the east and
Wokha District in the west. The district, located at an altitude of 1,875 m, has an area of 1,255 sq km.
Zunheboto is spread out on a cluster of hillocks inhabited by the Semas, a martial tribe. The Semas are famous for their colourful war dance and folk songs. Tuluni, observed in the second week of July every year, is one of the most important festivals. The district enjoys a monsoon climate. Winters are very cold but summers are moderately warm. Agriculture is the main occupation of the people. The main form of cultivation is
Jhum (shift cultivation). In the Jhum field, paddy, millet, maize, French bean, potato, pumpkin, cucumber, chilly and several varieties of gourd are grown.
