Zou is a tribe in
Manipur, who have similarities with the
Paites Tribe. They share many oral traditions, folklore, dance and music with the Paites. It is believed that their origin is from a cave somewhere in the extreme north. A village chief administrates the community. Their main economy is agriculture and they willingly work for small wages. Major celebrations are Mayashibi, a ritual performed in every mid-February, and the annual millet harvest celebration, around July. ‘Kuba’ is the place where the Zou men gather together for discussion and relaxation.
