Zaina Lank is a beautiful island on
Wular Lake. It was built by Zain-ul-abidin in an attempt to create a never-before-built monument. Major structures found on the island are a medieval-styled mosque and a small domed chamber of brick masonry.
The mosque, built of large blocks of limestone, resembles ancient Hindu temples while the chamber measuring 15' 7" square internally is thought to be a tomb, contemporary with the mosque.
Architectural fragments of fluted columns, stones from pilasters and jambs, found scattered on the island, gives a strong indication that a Hindu temple existed here once. A partially submerged Shivling found here strengthens this hypothesis. It is thought to be built by the same ruler itself.
