The
Puranas and Itihasas explain human beings in the context of repeating time cycles called yugas and kalpas. Kalpa is often referred to as a day of
Brahma, the god who governs this universe. Each day of Brahma is divided into 14
manvantara periods, each one lasting 71 Yuga cycles. The four yugas are Satya Yuga or Krita Yuga, Dvapara Yuga, Treta Yuga and
Kali Yuga.
