Yelandur, in
Chamrajnagar District, is situated about 61 km from
Mysore.
A significant place during the reign of the Cholas, Yelandur is noted for its Gourishwara Temple and Varahaswamy Temple. Yelandur came under the rule of the
Vijayanagar Empire after the rule of the Cholas and Hoysalas.
Other interesting spots in Yelandur are the residence of Diwan Purnaiah (now converted into a government office) and the gadduge (cemetery) of noted Kannada poet and Veerashaiva saint, Shadakshara Deva.
