Yak Dance




Yak dance is a masked pantomimes performed by the Sherdukpen tribe of Arunachal Pradesh. It is performed around a dummy Yak which is formed by two men donning a black cloth. The head of the dummy animal is made of wood and a figure of goddess is placed on the back of the animal. Three of the performers wear elaborate masks which represent the legendary hero Apapek and his two sons. Yak dance is inclusive of gentle and rhythmic steps.
