Women's Organisation in Rural Development (WORD), a non-governmental and non-profit organization commenced its operations in 1985 at
Namakkal District,
Tamil Nadu. They concentrate mainly on the development of the rural folk, particularly women and children, in all areas of their lives. The primary objective is to create insight among rural women to know their capabilities and to provide literacy to rural women and children. Some of the major activities include child labour elimination, environmental awareness, basic health, hygiene and first aid.
