The Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology is an autonomous research Institute of the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. Named after its founder - the late Prof. D. N. Wadia, - in appreciation to his contributions to the geology of the Himalayas, the institute carries out basic research in Himalayan geology and related fields which include geodynamic evolution, mountain building processes, geoenvironment and mineral resources.
Research facilities in the institute are complimented by a museum, library, a well equipped laboratory, and an expert faculty. The museum offers a glimpse of the mighty Himalaya, its origin, evolution in time and space, natural resources, life in the geological past, earthquakes and environmental aspects. The library showcases more than 25,000 titles of books, monographs, journals, and seminar and conference proceedings on geology and mountain building processes.
