Vriddha Badri is located at Animath, about 7 km from
Joshimath, in
Chamoli District of
Uttaranchal. Situated at an altitude of 1,380 m, it is the place where several centuries before the advent of
Adi Shankaracharya, the idol of Badrinath was enshrined and worshipped. The name ‘Vriddha’ literally means old, indicating the age of the shrine.
