The coastal village of Vizhinjam is about 18 km from
Thiruvananthapuram. It is famous for a modern fishing harbor with a lighthouse and a blue beach. Sheltered on the coast of
Arabian Sea, Vizhinjam is also a perfect tourist spot.
Earlier, it was the capital of the Ay kingdom (600-1000) and port of earlier Travancore State. Vizhinjam Marine Aquarium is well known for ornamental fishes. Vizhinjam rock cut cave is a nearby attraction. A Tidal Power Plant is situated here.
Trivandrum International Airport and Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station are the nearest airport and railway station. Regular bus services operate from Thiruvananthapuram.
