Formerly known as Ishtikapura, Vittal is a small hamlet in the
Dakshina Kannada District of
Karnataka. This place is famous for four temples named Panchalingeshwara, Subrahmanya, Madanteshwara and Vithoba. Other tourist attractions include the ruins of a fort and the palace within the fort destroyed by
Tipu Sultan. The graveyard where one of the ministers named Shambhulinga Bhatt was buried alive for treason is situated to the north of the palace. Vittal has an Arecanut Research Station, two higher secondary schools and a primary health center.
Vittal is around 41 km from
Mangalore and is well-connected with
Bantwal by road.
