Vishwa Shanti Stupa is located 8 km south of
Bhubaneswar, opposite the
Dhauli Hill in
Khordha District of
Orissa. This white gleaming monument, dedicated to world peace, was built by the Japanese Buddhists in 1972. This is said to be the earliest rock-cut sculpture in India.
The attractive pagoda stands tall on the spot where the Mauryan emperor Ashoka fought the Kalinga war in 265 BC, which subsequently led to his conversion to Buddhism.
Biju Patnaik Airport and Bhubaneswar Railway Station are the nearest airport and railway station.
