Located approximately 7 km north of
Sonbarsa, Viratpur is a charming hamlet with immense archeological and religious importance. It is in the
Saharsa District of
Bihar.
A large number of sculptures belonging to Pala and Sena School of Art are found during the recent excavation at Viratpur. The most important antiquity lying near the site is the inscription of the king Sarvasimhadeva of the Oinwar Dynasty, the ruling dynasty of the 14th-15th century AD. A brick built fortification wall is also present.
Chandi Mandir, built in the 11th century, is one of the main attractions.
Frequent bus services are available from Sonbarsa to Viratpur.
Patna Airport and
Saharsa Junction Railway Station are the nearest airport and railhead respectively.
