Situated near Port Blair, this is a two storeyed jail building constructed during 1864-67 by Lieutenant Colonel Barnet Ford. It has got a permanent place in the history of the Indian freedom struggle. Freedom fighters imprisoned here had suffered a lot and the conditions at the jail were such that the jail got the infamous name, 'Viper Chain Gang Jail'. Now it has tumbled down to the plinth level except for a part of the roof with the outer wall ruined.
