Vikramsheels Setu, named after the ancient Vikramsheela University, is a 4.6 km long bridge across the
Ganga that connects Barari Ghat in
Bhagalpur with
Naugachia in
Bihar. It is the third bridge across Ganga in the state and is second in terms of length, next only to the
Mahatma Gandhi Setu Bridge at
Patna.
Vikramsheels Setu, which connects National Highway 31 with National Highway 80, considerably reduces the distance between several places including those in the north-eastern states and West Bengal. The distance it saves in some parts of the state amounts to 250 km or so, thus re-assuring its significance in revolutionizing the road transport scenario in Bihar. The bridge comes handy for the banana cultivators around Naugachia and millions of rural people, who otherwise had to depend on boats and steamers to cross over the river.
