Vijay Vilas Palace is an impressive structure with splendid architectural features, located 8 km west of
Mandvi in
Kutch District. Mandvi is about 60 km south-west of
Bhuj.
The palace was built in 1940 by Rao Vijayrajji. Set in 700 acres of land, it was the summer retreat of Maharaos of Kutch. The palace is noted for its umbrella domes, and cupolas of the Rajasthani and Bengali styles consort with Gothic arches and Baroque features. The walls are decorated with paintings and hunting trophies.
This sandy-white domed building also houses Belgian, British and Italian furniture. Fountains and gardens add to its charm.
