Venpakkanathar Temple




Venpakkanathar Temple, also known by the name Oonreeswarar Temple, is located at Tiruvenpakkam which is 11 km from Tiruvallur in Tiruvallur District. The original site where the temple was situated is now submerged under the Poondy reservoir. The deities are now housed in a temple on its shores. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The presiding deity is Oonreeswarar and there is a worship place for Goddess Minnaloliammai. The Sthala Vriksham (sacred tree) is Ilandai and the Teertham is Kailaya teertham. Pushpagireeswarar temple is situated nearby. Chennai is the nearest travel base which is 42 km east of Tiruvallur.
