Venkatagiri Kingdom was established in 1600 AD in
Andhra Pradesh and it was ruled by Velugoti family of Velama caste. This family is believed to have been migrated from Velugodu of
Telangana region.
Venkatagiri, about 80 km south-west of
Nellore, was their capital. Some of the prominent rulers of this empire were Velogoti Rayudappa Nayani and Velugoti Kumarayachamnayani.
