Veliyanad is located in Ernakulam District. The place is famous for Adi Sankara Nilayam, the ancestral maternal house of Adi Shankaracharyaa. There is a large temple dedicated to the deity of the family - self-evolved Shasta (Lord Ayyappa). A Naga Yakshi Temple and a Vettakkorumakan Temple are also seen in the complex.
