Veerabhadra Dance is a distinctive South Indian style dance performed in
Ponda, the place which is considered the heart of
Hinduism in
Goa. It is played as a part of religious rites once in a year. The core theme is the mythological episode of
Veerabhadra, an attendant spirits of
Lord Shiva.
While performing this dance, the participants hold swords in both hands and dance rhythmically with the beats. Dance is accompanied with the music of dholak and tasha. Veerabhadra Dance is also observed in Sanguem and Bicholim taluks.
