Vayalur Skanda Temple

Situated at Vayalur, 9 km from Tiruchirappalli, Vayalur Temple is a highly revered shrine dedicated to Lord Skanda (Lord Muruga/Subramanya). Contrary to other Skanda temples in the state which are perched on hill tops, this Muruga temple is located amidst fields. According to the inscriptions found here, the temple dates back to the period of Cholas. The bronze image of Lord Nataraja, which is noted for its unique posture (with both its feet touching the ground) enshrined here, is another point of attraction.

Shashti, Kartikai peruvizha, Panguni Utthiram, annual festival of Vaikasi Visakam, and Arunagirinathar festival are celebrated here amidst much splendor.
