Varah Temple




Varah is an impressive temple located at Pushkar in Ajmer District of Rajasthan. This temple houses an image of Vishnu in the form of a wild boar. Tradition recounts that Lord Vishnu, the protector of the world, incarnated on earth as a Varah (wild boar) to kill the demon Hirnayaksh and liberate the land from his wicked or cruel acts. Varah Temple is believed to have been constructed by King Anaji Chauhan (1123-1150).
