Valley of Flowers National Park is located above
Ghangharia at the upper reaches of the Bhyundar Ganga in the Zaskar Range of the
Garhwal Himalayas. Established in 1982, this park spans over 87 sq km in
Chamoli District.
This park is the smallest national park in the Himalayas and was created to protect the catchments area of the Pushpawati River. Inhabitants include musk deer,
blue sheep, snow leopard, Himalayan bear, Himalayan mouse hare and some Himalayan birds.
The best time to visit is from mid-July to mid-August. Accommodation is available at the forest rest house in Ghangharia.
The park is a 5 km trek from Ghangharia, which is 13 km from the road head at
Govind Ghat, between Joshimath and Badrinath.
Jolly Grant Airport is the nearest airport and Rishikesh Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
