Vallakkottai




Vallakkottai is a picturesque village situated about 12 km south of Sriperumbudur, Kanchipuram District. This is an ancient village popular for the Vallakkottai Murugan Temple. This temple houses the beautiful statues of Valli and Teyvayanai. The temple architecture resembles the architectural style of the Pallava era. Main attraction is the 7 ft height idol of Lord Muruga, one of the tallest idols in Tamil Nadu. Believed to be built by Bhagirathan, the king of Ilanci, the temple draws thousands of devotees. Popularly known as Kota Andavar Kovil, this temple has special pujas on Sundays. During the main festival, a large number of devotees throng Vallakkottai. By road, Tambaram is 25 km from here. Chennai International Airport is the nearest airport.
