Valla is a picturesque village in
Amritsar District of
Punjab, about 7 km from
Amritsar.
Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib, the ninth guru of the Sikhs had visited this place. During his visit, the women folk of the village served him with great dedication. Pleased by their hospitality, Guru exclaimed "Valla Guru ka Galla" (Valla is the bowl of Guru). The village centers round the nucleus of a famous Sikh shrine called Gurdwara Valla Sahib, built in memory of the visit of Guru Sahib. There is a sacred pipal tree believed to be the same under which Guru Sahib rested. At the center of the village lies the Gurdwara Kottha Sahib.
