Vajra Bhairava Shrine




Vajra Bhairava Shrine is a tantric guardian deity of the Gelug-pa order. This deity is considered to have supernatural powers.

The significance of this shrine is that the deity is unveiled only once in a year. For the rest of the year, it is kept in a chamber. There are paintings that date back over 600 years on the walls of the shrine. It is Spituk's oldest building.

Mahakal Temple, Spituk Monastery and Spituk Gustor are the major nearby attractions.

Vajra Bhairava Shrine is situated at Spituk, about 10 km from Leh, Jammu and Kashmir.
