A renowned Hindustani classical vocalist and
Sarangi player, Ustad Amir Khan was born in
Indore in
Madhya Pradesh in 1912 to a family of musicians. His father and well known Sarangi player, Ustad Shamir Khan was his first teacher. Later, he trained under the guidance of Ustad Rajab Ali Khan of Bhendibazar Gharana. His style was a unique blend of
Dhrupad and
Khayal. Ustad Amir Khan was the recipient of numerous awards including
Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, the President's Award, and Padma Bhushan. He died at the age of 62.
