Ustad Alauddin Khan Sangeet Academy was formed in 1979 by the government of
Madhya Pradesh to honour the renowned musician and sarod maestro Ustad Alauddin Khan. The academy's objective is to promote talented young artists in the field of music and dance. The academy has separate sections for music and dance in
Bhopal. The Chakradhar Nritya Kendra, the dance wing, specializes in the higher studies of
Kathak dance. The music institute, Dhrupad Kendra, offers higher education in the rare classical music genre,
Dhrupad. Scholarships are awarded to selected students. In addition, the academy imparts fundamental lessons to children in the age group 6 to 12 years. The academy conducts annual festivals to promote new artists.
