Famous for ancient caves, Ushakothi is located in
Sundargarh District of
Orissa. It lies in a tribal dominated hill region and is about 40 km west of
Sundargarh.
It is one among the most ancient cave painting sites tracing to Neolithic Period. Here the rock paintings are found in two hills separated each other by a distance of two kilometer. The paintings are typically linear and different from one cave to another.
The stretch between Ushakothi and Sundergarh is partly laid on gravel and tar and other part is full of twists and turns through forest. It is an ideal place for trekking.
Hemagiri Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
