An Uru is a gigantic vessel, created meticulously by nailing together well planed planks of timber. The uru or dhow was the traditional Arabian trading vessel. The uru was used to sail to Gulf countries with heavy luggage. It took a team of around fifty men at least four years to complete a vessel. The boat-building yard at
Beypore is famous for traditional construction of the Uru. These vessels are built by traditional shipbuilders known as Khalasis, who are famous for their extensive knowledge of ship construction.
