Urthuvathandava Perumal Temple




Urthuvathandava Perumal Temple is located at Tiruvalankadu in Nagapattinam District, Tamil Nadu. The temple is also known as Nataraja Oordhvatandavamoorthy - Aalankatteesar Temple. This ancient temple has a Rajagopuram. The temple contains beautiful mandapams and gopurams including the Ratna Sabha (one of the five Pancha Sabhais special to Nataraja). The inscriptions of the temple date back to the 5th century. The ruins here prove that the temple was reconstructed and renovated during the Chola period. At the entrance of the inner prakaram there are stucco images depicting the five dance halls of Shiva. The Sthala Vriksham is banyan tree. The main festival celebrated here is the Margazhi Tiruvadirai. The nearest railhead is at Tiruvalankadu (5 km) which is on the Chennai- Arakkonam railway line.
