Urs festival, celebrated at
Ajmer in
Rajasthan, is the largest Muslim Fair in India. It is observed every year during the first six days of Rajab, the seventh month of the Islamic calendar. The fair is celebrated at
Ajmer-e-Sharief Dargah, the tomb of Sufi saint Khawaja Moin-ud-din Chishti.
Pilgrims from all parts gathered to pay homage to Moin-ud-din Chishti. They make rich offerings such as rose, jasmine, sandalwood paste, perfumes, incense, chadar, ghilaph and neema. Qawwalis are sung and religious assemblies called mehfils are held in the mehfil-khana.
