Established in 1969, University of Kashmir owes its origin to the pervious University of Jammu. It strives to provide learning and research opportunities to undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students in a fair and equitable manner.
The university has faculties for Arts, Education, Law, Science, Social Science, Management, Medicine, Engineering, Non-formal Education and Music and Fine Arts.
Spread over an area of 250 acres, the campus features hostel, mosque, cafeteria, post office and convocation hall. Spacious playing fields, along with a team of qualified coaches, are available for sports activities. Besides, a library is attached, which caters to the academic and research needs of the scholars, students and teachers of Jammu and Kashmir.
The University of Kashmir is situated at Hazratbal, which is 7 km from Srinagar. It is linked with the city by a well-maintained transport system.
