Founded in 1921 as a venture in inter-denominational cooperation among the four major non-Roman Catholic denominations of South India - The Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, Malankara Jacobite Syrian Church, The Church of South India and The Mar Thoma Syrian Church, the Union Christian College aims at producing intellectually competent, morally upright, spiritually inspired and patriotic men and women in the service of the country. It strives for the wholesome education of the young to bring out the best in each individual. Empowering the powerless, particularly the tribals, dalits, women and other vulnerable sections of society forms a significant part of its activities.
The college has been accredited with five stars by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council. It offers UG and PG courses in the faculties of chemistry, botany, economics, mathematics, physical education, history, and
Malayalam. The Institute of Communication and Information Technology offers diploma courses in computer applications and information and library science. Other facilities in the college include hostel accommodations, library, and state of the art computer labs.
