Udaigiri Caves

Udaigiri Caves, which date from 320-600 AD, are about 20 rock-cut cave shrines located at Udaigiri in Vidisha District of Madhya Pradesh.

Among these, two caves are Jain and the rest are Hindu. The caves are built in Gupta style. Intricate Jain carvings decorate the walls of the cave. The cave 5 enshrines an image (4 m tall) of Varaha. The images of the river goddesses, Yamuna and Ganga, can be seen in the caves. The cave 9 has 2.5 m tall pillars in its hall.

Regular bus connects Udaigiri with Vidisha, about 6 km away.
