Placed at a high altitude of 17,608 ft above sea level, Turtok lies on the border area of India and Pakistan. Situated in
Kargil District near the line of control, it is 229 km away from
Srinagar.
Chunga is in the west, Siari in the north, Chalunka in the east and Zagalnakchan in the south. This mountainous area is an ideal place for trekking. Shyok Valley is a nearby attraction.
Turtok can be easily approached from Goma Hanu, Hangdangsmin and Kargil The nearest railhead is Jammu Tawi Railway Station, which is on the Jammu – Pathankot line. The nearest airport is at Leh.
