Tuium is an indigenous water container used by the people of
Mizoram. It is constructed from bamboo with length ranging from 900 mm to 1200 mm. The diameter measures about 100 mm to 140 mm. The bamboo piece is so chosen that it contains 2 nodes, with the lower node forming the base while the upper node is pierced. The rim is cut at an angle for the ease in pouring.
The outer surface is scraped and smoothened to lighten the container and prevent its cracking. The scraping also helps in the percolation of the water to outer surface, which on evaporation helps in cooling the stored water.
