Tuensang District lies in the eastern-most part of
Nagaland. It is bordered by Myanmar in the east,
Mon District and the state of
Assam in the north,
Zunheboto and
Mokokchung districts in the west and
Phek District in the south. Tuensang is situated at an altitude of 1,371 m above sea level.
It is the homeland of the Changs,
Yimchungers, Khiamungans, Sangtams, Semas and Phoms. These tribes have a rich cultural heritage. They wear colourful dresses. The dances are rhythmic and songs heartwarming. The district is known for its handicrafts and handloom products. Tuensang has an area of around 4,228 sq km and a population of 414,801.
Longtrok (the word means six stones in Ao and Sangtam tongues) is located at Chungliyimti, 57 km from the town of
Tuensang, in the Sangtam area. According to the legends, the first of the Ao ancestors emerged from longtrok (six stones).
