Tsukhenyie Festival




Tsukhenyie festival, of the Chakhesang tribe of Phek District in Nagaland, is celebrated during the month of May. The festival lasts for four days and marks the beginning of the yearly routine of cultivation and related work. On the first morning of the festival, the village priest sacrifices the first cock that crowed that morning and then the male folks come to a designated well and purify themselves by bathing. Games, music competitions are arranged and people enjoy themselves singing, dancing and glorifying their ancestors' valor. No female livestock is slaughtered during the festival.
