The Tower of Shadows is situated between the High Court and the Parliament building, in the Capitol area of
Chandigarh. It was designed by the renowned designer Le Corbusier in 1960. It stands like a ‘monument of shadows’, with its concrete louvers extending over four floors. This lofty open-hall provides sufficient shade at any time.
This interesting monument is an interesting study of the movement of the sun. Le Corbusier used various shading devices and demonstrated that people can control the sun on the four cardinal points of a structure and can play with it even in a torrid country and obtain lower temperatures.
