Toomba is a folk instrument of
Punjab. Similar to
Ektara, this single stringed instrument is used by folk singers.
The instrument is made of wooden sticks and has a resonator mounted on it. There is a metallic string on the resonator which is tuned by winding up the key. The key is tied to the string and is placed at the end of the stick. Electronic pick-ups are attached for a greater sound.
Toomba produces sound as well as rhythm. Swara (musical note) or full octave notes cannot be obtained from the instrument.
