Tomb of Pir Haji Muhammad is located on the way to
Jama Masjid through
Safa Kadal in
Srinagar. It is near Sri Ranbir Ganj - the busiest and most important trading mart in Jammu and Kashmir.
Its architecture is similar to that of the tomb of Zain-Ul-Abidin's mother, the only difference being in the number of steps - this has two while the latter has only one. Its super structure still stands intact and has never been tampered with.
Some of the associated constructions in the structure are seemed to be later additions. The screen walls of kanjur masonry filling the space between the stone pilasters and two flights of steps, which are thought to have been transplanted from some Hindu site, doesn’t seem to fit into its original plan.
Within the compound wall lies a small square Muslim brick tomb. After studying the ruins, Sir Aurel Stein mentioned that this structure could be the temple of Vishnu Ranasvamin, which Kalhana had mentioned as founded by King Ranaditya and it might have had enjoyed considerable celebrity up to a comparatively late period.
