Tomb of Iltumish is located to the west of the
Quwwat-ul-Islam Masjid in
Mehrauli, in
Delhi. Iltumish was the sultan of Delhi and also known in history as Shamsuddin. The tomb of Iltumish is considered to be the first Muslim mausoleum in India. It was built in the year 1235 by the ruler himself.
The architecture of the tomb shows a blend of Indian and Islamic influences. It has three complex arches, which hide an interior 9 m square with arabesque patterns, united with inscriptions, lotus and wheel motifs.
