Tokka is a primitive solid percussion instrument, which has both musical and non-musical uses. It is made of thin bamboo tube with a long slit, leaving the lower end intact. A handle is made at the lower end. While beating the other end rhythmic pattern of sound is produced because of the clashing of the slit portions.
This instrument is commonly used in Assam in folk music and dance. It is associated with Bihuna Dance performed during Bihu Festival. This instrument is also a hunter’s tool, a smaller variety is used by elephant hunters in the jungles of
Mysore. A kind of Tokka is Lebang Gumani, a musical instrument used by Tripuris (Tipera Tribes).
