Tiruveengoimalai Temple




Tiruveengoimalai Temple is one among the three Shivasthalams in Tiruchirapalli, tamil Nadu. It is said that visiting the Kadambar Kovil, Ratnagiri and Tiruveengoimalai on the same day is of great significance. Legend has it that in order to visit Lord Shiva, Agasthyar assumed the form of a housefly. Thus the place came to be called Eengoimalai. The temple contain 500 steps and is built in a special way that the rays of the sun fall on the Maragata lingam on Shivratri in the month of Masi, and the lingam emits different hues. The main festival is Thaipusam. Other festivals are Arudra Darisanam, and Aadi Perukku.
